About Us
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers affecting underprivileged students in our communities and schools. We provide access to drivers training programs, licensing opportunities, and vehicle safety to students who would otherwise not have these invaluable resources. We also hope to expand to include assisting students with vehicle ownership. Having a legal license and a vehicle are essential components in young adulthood. It allows them to safely and easily access more employment opportunities, schooling opportunities, teaches financial literacy, and promotes self confidence and ownership over one’s destiny. Our program helps guide students through this process and works to remove all barriers that would otherwise prevent these opportunities. We welcome you to join us, Let’s Drive Forward together!
Changing Patterns
My name is Carlie Hawkins and I am the Vice President of Let’s Drive Forward. I am a teacher and educational leader for an alternative high school. The students I teach live challenging lives with barriers to accessing education and services that many take for granted. While working with my students an apparent need arose, driver's training. Drivers training has become a privilege as it is no longer offered as part of the school curriculum. Many disadvantaged students can not afford driver's training and do not have the resources necessary to properly get a license. Without proper training, funds, and access to resources, these young adults lose many job opportunities, have trouble getting to and from school, and struggle to help provide basic needs for their families. Let’s Drive Forward was started to change this pattern and provide equal access to driver’s training and assistance in acquiring licenses to all young adults.
